When I have finally reached my destination, I will listen to "Angel Band," the song that concludes O Brother, Where Art Thou, and introduces the credits.

I have finally arrived. "My triumph has begun." When I arrive here, I am just going to spend a day on the lake. I will partake in such activities as hiking, fishing, swimming, and more. I will also explore the dam, and all of the modern technology that goes into maintaining the lake's ecosystem. According to the official website, "Arkabutla Lake is part of the comprehensive plan for flood control on the Yazoo River and tributaries above the head of the Mississippi River backwater area." In the past, this area had been subjected to serious flooding problems, so the lake was put here as a solution to those problems. The placement of the lake represented a transition from the old age of flood problems to a new age of flood control. The simple act of flood control can allow me to engage with the theme I have been pursuing throughout my journey.
One more place that I will explore is the monument to the old town of Coldwater. This monument can be seen as the perfect symbol of my journey. Like many of the other places that I have stopped, it represents a crossroads of the old South and the new South, and how the modern age has taken over. Remnants of the old town can still be seen here as well. When I'm there, I can imagine myself quoting Everett's meaningful line: "Yes sir, the South is going to change."
The bed and breakfast house reminds me of the one I am staying at.
ReplyDeleteLove the blog brother. We have similar topics, and I feel that you are implementing the theme well, as well as a "fun" aspect to the trip. Also, your quotes from the movie are great.
