Day two will see me heading off to Shreveport, Louisiana. Because I am making progress on my journey, this is where I will listen to “A Man of Constant Sorrow,” which I feel marks progress in the film.
Shreveport
I will
be staying at the Holiday Inn, and I will be dining at the Robinson Film
Center, a movie theater with a bistro on the second floor that allows you to
take their food into the theater. They
are currently showing the film Coriolanus, Ralph Feinnes’ modern-day take on
the Shakespeare play. Although not
relevant to the South, it still pertains to the idea of old versus new, so it
does build upon my theme. Plus, it is a
place that I would really like to visit, so I have to stop there no matter
what.
This 1941 Preston Sturges film serves as a major inspiration for O Brother, Where Art Thou. It is about a director who makes comedies, yet wishes to make a more meaningful drama for the working class, whom he feels are not spoken for in the entertainment industry. The movie he wants to make is called O Brother, Where Art Thou.

I like your choice of music and your trip seems very interesting :)
ReplyDeleteHey Mark,
ReplyDeleteI really like your appreciation and understanding of O Brother Where Art Thou?, it's one of my favorite films and it has so much depth, one could talk about it for years (many of us have). If I had a suggestion it might be a little more text on the pages, maybe on this one especially because the public audience that doesn't know the film so well might not understand the Sullivan's Travels link to O Brother Where Art Thou?. Otherwise, great job :-)
